Valid models require defined levels

چکیده
ion. So now, let us try to describe abstraction. Here are some dictionary definitions: “abstract adj. 1. Considered apart from concrete existence . . . 4. Thought of or stated without reference to a specific instance.” “abstraction n. The process of extracting the underlying essence, removing dependence on real world objects.” Abstraction allows designers and modelers to describe a problem at a high level by hiding low-level information. In general, the higher the level of abstraction, the more things the system hides from the user. In 1945, Pablo Picasso made a wash drawing of a bull. A month later, he finished his 11th state of abstraction, which was composed of six lines. Célestin said, “When you stand before his eleventh bull, it’s hard to imagine the work that went into it” (Picasso 2006). At another time, he did an abstraction of his wife’s face in six stages. Picasso and Henri Matisse concurrently developed abstractionism in modern art. Digital computer simulations are written in levels Level Name What we know at this level 5 (highest) Coupled component systems Components and how they are coupled together. The components should be systems themselves, thereby producing hierarchical structures 4 State transitions How states are affected by inputs, that is, given an initial state we know the new state after the input is finished; what outputs are generated in each state 3 System experiments Given an initial state, every input trajectory produces a predictable output trajectory 2 Input/output behavior Time-indexed data collected from the source system, which consists of input/output pairs 1 (lowest) Source system Inputs to apply, variables to measure and how to observe them over time Figure 2. An Integrated Development Environment with Enhanced Domain-Specific Interactive Model Validation
Modelling of physical systems plays an important role in many engineering domains. For engineers it is important to model real world objects in order to simulate and assess their behavior. This is particularly true for the development of new product components such as, for example, wind turbines. The suitability and durability of components needs to be investigated early in the design process t...
متن کاملMILP models and valid inequalities for the two-machine permutation flowshop scheduling problem with minimal time lags
In this paper, we consider the problem of scheduling on two-machine permutation flowshop with minimal time lags between consecutive operations of each job. The aim is to find a feasible schedule that minimizes the total tardiness. This problem is known to be NP-hard in the strong sense. We propose two mixed-integer linear programming (MILP) models and two types of valid inequalities which aim t...
متن کاملGeneralising 3D Buildings from LoD2 to LoD1
The increasing popularity of 3D city models in navigation, urban planning, etc., necessitates application-specific and geometrically accurate and valid models. The concept of Levels of Detail (LoDs) indicate a model’s scale of adherence to its real-world counterpart. Highly detailed datasets often contain errors or require an exorbitant level of computing power. Given the high availability of L...
متن کاملA conceptual model for temporal data warehouses and its transformation to the ER and the object-relational models
The MultiDim model is a conceptual multidimensional model for data warehouse and OLAP applications. These applications require the presence of a time dimension to track changes in measure values. However, the time dimension cannot be used to represent changes in other dimensions. In this paper we introduce a temporal extension of the MultiDim model. This extension is based on research realized ...
متن کاملReasoning with multiple abstraction models
The problem of complexity has kept qualitative physics techniques from being applied to large real-world systems . Use of a hierarchy of abstract models is crucial for managing complexity . Several researchers have proposed ways to use an abstraction hierarchy of models to control the complexity of qualitative simulation [Falkenhainer & Forbus 88, Kuipers 87] . All the approaches proposed requi...
متن کاملA Hybrid Optimization Algorithm for Learning Deep Models
Deep learning is one of the subsets of machine learning that is widely used in Artificial Intelligence (AI) field such as natural language processing and machine vision. The learning algorithms require optimization in multiple aspects. Generally, model-based inferences need to solve an optimized problem. In deep learning, the most important problem that can be solved by optimization is neural n...
